George Hall Elementary June ‘24-’25 Literacy Camp with Gardening

In June 2024 and June 2025 MUG led the campers in learning about what we give to the garden and what we receive from the garden. We had dozens of campers helping refresh the school garden beds by weeding, adding compost, and planting seeds. MUG was rewarded with precious thank you letters and drawings that spotlighted what each camper remembered from the lessons including mindfulness breathing, their favorite activities like making a sun dial, and the joy of planting in the soil.

Mobile Urban Growers has led additional Gardening for Health sessions with Teacher Retirement Systems participants in Clanton, AL, Oneonta, AL, and Dothan, AL to share the benefits of gardening on health, mindful practice, and plant propagation and seed planting with retirees in 2024 and 2025. In Spring 2024, Mobile Urban Growers received grant funds from Love Your Community to improve the Taylor Park Children’s Program. This was also made possible thanks to several Airbus Volunteers.
